BMW recently announced that they will cease production of the Z4 model to make room for the still-in-development Z5. The BMW Z4 two-seater Z4 roadster featured a uniquely designed folding hard top, a contemporary design profile, and a throaty six-cylinder engine, but with the announcement of a joint venture between the German auto manufacturer and Toyota, it was only a matter of time before the Z4 was phased out of the model lineup.
Exact details on the new Z5 roadster aren’t available yet, but a few facts have trickled out of Munich.
- Scheduled to start production in 2018
- Body will be slightly larger than the Z4, but it should actually weigh less
- Four and six-cylinder engines will be available
- The possibility of a hybrid system has been discussed
- A coupe and roadster version will be available
