SENCRRS

The Southeastern North Carolina Radio Reading Service is a 501(c) charitable organization that provides daily readings of conventional print to the blind and visually impaired living within a 60 mile radius of Cumberland County.  This local serves has been established for more than 25 years and remains the only service of its kind for this region of North Carolina.   The SENCRRS delivers and sets-up radio/receivers in residential and commercial properties to the print disable at no cost. The radio/receivers are placed as a loan and remains until services are no longer needed. Local programming begins daily with a one hour recorded chair exercise program. A live two hour broadcast follows in which two readers alternate reading articles from the Fayetteville Observer.

Volunteers of the SENCRRS reads articles daily in a consistent format.  Some articles are read within specific time frames so listeners will know the approximate time that specific sections are read. The articles are read as it appears in the text with little to no editorializing from the readers. The first hour begins with the local weather followed by celebrities birthday’s acknowledgements of our listener’s birthdays. The reader focuses on local and regional news. The second hour always begins with local obituaries, Billy Graham, Dear Abby, horoscope and the remaining local and regional news. On Wednesday’s the grocery ads are read. Our morning programming are recorded and rebroadcast the following evening.

Other newspapers read throughout the week read include : Paraglide, Sandspur, Fort Bragg Life, Southern Pines Pilot (read by volunteers in Moore county), Robesionan, Dunn Daily , Harnett County, Raeford News Journal and Sampson Independent. Listeners can follow broadcast in neighboring counties such as Duplin, Harnett, Hoke, Johnston, Lee, Moore, Robeson (parts of) Richmond, Scotland and Wayne. Additional programmings include books and health information. Through affiliates, the SENCRRS is able to provide 24 hour service of other programming such as the Wall Street Journal and other nation interest.

5th Annual Walkie-Talkie Golf Tournament

In order to support the mission and purpose of providing services to the blind and visually impaired citizens of Fayetteville and Cumberland County, the SENCRRS will be hosting the 5th annual Walkie-Talkie Golf Tournament at Gates Four Golf and Country Club on Friday September 25, 2015.

Entry Fee: $65 per player or $250 four man team.  Entry fee includes green fees and cart, range balls, lunch and dinner.  Free beverages are provided.

Format: Captain’s Choice

Registration and lunch begins at 12:00 pm in the Riddle Room and tee off is set for 1:00 pm.

Prizes will be awarded for 1st place team and 2nd place team.
