1. 1897 Poe House

The 1897 Poe House, also known as the Edgar Allan “E.A.” Poe House is one of the most beautiful historic homes in the whole of North Carolina. Named after the businessman and politician of the same name, the Poe house is part of the Museum of the Cape Fear complex. Visitors can enjoy docent-led tours of the home, learning more about its past and admiring the wonderful Victorian furnishings throughout.

2. Arsenal Park

Arsenal Park is also a part of the Museum of the Cape Fear complex. It’s situated behind the main museum, extending out across four and a half acres of land. It’s not the biggest park, but it’s packed full of history, being home to the remains of the Fayetteville Confederate arsenal, destroyed by General William T. Sherman and his forces back in 1865.

3. U.S. Airborne & Special Operations Museum

There are plenty of museums worth checking out around Fayetteville, but the U.S. Airborne & Special Operations Museum is by far one of the most interesting. Situated near Fort Bragg, this museum focuses on U.S. military history, with a range of artifacts, artwork, and other items related to the U.S. Army. Arguably its most interesting artifact is the wreckage from Super 6-1, the first Black Hawk helicopter to be shot down during the Battle of Mogadishu.

4. Cape Fear Botanical Garden

If you’re looking for a wonderful place to spend a sunny day in Fayetteville, Cape Fear Botanical Garden is the place to be. There are nature trails, a visitor center, and an amphitheater for special events throughout the year.
