What is BMW Connected?

BMW Connected, a new digital service from the German automotive manufacturer, has recently become available in the United States and in select European markets. But what is BMW Connected?

BMW Connected is your Personal Mobility Companion, an all-encompassing connectivity service.

Dieter May, Senior VP of Digital Services and Business Models at BMW, explains that, “Over the coming years, digitalization is set to have a substantial impact on how we use our cars: digital services will emerge that connect us fully with our personal world, no matter whether we’re on the road or at home. The car will be transformed into a smart device — intelligently connected, seamlessly integrated and perfectly turned to the individual needs of each and every user.” BMW Connected is the first step forward in this movement.

Currently, BMW Connected runs off of your iPhone or Apple Watch, though it is expected to arrive on Android soon.

What can BMW Connected do?

• Read your calendar to learn your daily schedule, and suggest the best departure time based on real-time traffic conditions
• Learn the destinations you visit most often
• Bring up directions on your BMW’s in-car navigation system directly without needing to type in an address
• Send a text message letting your friends know when you will arrive
• Find the best walking route to your destination from your parking spot
