4 Amazing Hiking Trails Near Fayetteville, NC

Hiking is a great way to get some fresh air and exercise while decompressing from a long, stressful week at work. Fayetteville, NC is a bustling city with plenty to do, but one of the best things about this city is its proximity to incredible hiking trails. Here’s a brief overview of the best trails for hiking in the area.

1. Cape Fear River Trail

The Cape Fear River Trail is the best hiking trail near Fayetteville. This moderately difficult trail is perfect for virtually all fitness levels. However, if you want to hike it in its entirety, you need to bring plenty of water and will probably want a snack. This Cumberland County Park trail is 10.2 miles long with an elevation gain of 472 feet.

There’s a lot to love about this 10-foot wide paved trail, but we love that it is wheelchair- and stroller-friendly. We also love the ample signage describing some of the plants and wildlife you will see on the river bank. Among the wildlife you can expect to see are frogs, turtles, and lizards. Additionally, we recommend going early in the morning at least once to catch the deer grazing.

2. Longleaf Pine, Fox Squirrel, and Turkey Oak Loop Trail

We love the Longleaf Pine, Fox Squirrel, and Turkey Oak loop trail because it is 9.6 miles long, making it challenging if you’re fairly new to hiking. However, it only features an elevation gain of 383 feet and is extremely customizable, so it is ideal for people of all fitness levels.

For instance, the three trails are 9.6 miles long. However, if you opt out of the Turkey Oak trail, your hike in Carvers Creek State Park will only be 5.2 miles long. What we also love about this trail, besides its easily customizable length, are the bird watching opportunities, the stunningly beautiful river views, and deer that graze on the bank of the river.

3. Cape Fear Botanical Garden Trail

We love the Cape Fear Botanical Garden trail because it is extremely kid-friendly and ideal for all fitness levels. This 1.2-mile loop trail features an elevation gain of only 72 feet, so your kids won’t be too worn out after hiking the trail. We also love that this beautiful river trail is conveniently located just five miles off of I-95.

4. Mazarick Park Loop

The Mazarick Park Loop is another great trail for kids who are old enough to not need a stroller. This one-mile loop trail features a beautiful lake and an elevation gain of only 55 feet. What we love about this trail is its amenities.

There is an outstanding frisbee golf course, two playgrounds for the kids, pavilions, and a couple of grills. Mazarick Park is a great place to host a family reunion because it offers plenty of fun for children and adults alike.
