5 Things to Know About the BMW X1 Series

The BMW X1 has an upscale exterior look, but underneath lies a sporty and playful design with plenty of power. This small SUV received just a few updates for the 2021 model year. It now comes standard with a year’s subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio, and there are some new paint choices. Additional changes include removing LED fog lights as an option and making the sport seats only available with the M Sport Package.

1. The Exterior Features

The BMW X1 comes as the sDrive28i and the xDrive28i. It comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, and a power liftgate. If you add the Convenience Package, you’ll get auto-dimming side mirrors, a panoramic sunroof, and power-folding side mirrors. The Premium Package adds LED headlights and cornering lights, and the M Sport Package has an aerodynamic body kit, an upgraded suspension, the M Sport transmission, and unique wheels.

2. The Engine

Both the sDrive28i and the xDrive28i get their power from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 228 horsepower. It works with an eight-speed transmission. The sDrive model is the front-wheel-drive version, and if you want all-wheel drive, the xDrive is the X1 you want.

3. The Cabin Features

Inside, the X1 comes standard with automatic climate control, simulated leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, driver’s side memory settings, and push-button start. The Convenience Package adds ambient lighting in the cabin, adjustable lumbar support for both front seats, and auto-dimming interior mirrors. The Premium Package adds to this with heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. If you opt for the Luxury Package, it comes with genuine leather upholstery and offers a choice between wood-grain or aluminum trim elements in the cabin. The M Sport Package adds some sporty touches such as sport front seats, the M Sport steering wheel, and paddle shifters.

4. The Technology

You’ll get lots of standard tech features in the X1, starting with an 8.8-inch center display screen, the Drive infotainment system, Bluetooth for phone and audio, satellite radio, navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a USB port. The X1 also comes standard with a 7-speaker stereo system, but BMW offers a 12-speaker Harman Kardon stereo as an upgrade. You can also add a Wi-Fi hot spot and get wireless charging.

5. The Safety Features

The 2021 X1 Series comes with advanced safety features such as forward collision warning with mitigation, lane-keeping assist, both front and rear parking sensors, and automatic high beam headlights. Adding the Premium Package will get you a head-up display. You can get an adaptive cruise control system with stop-and-go as a stand-alone option, and BMW also offers lane-departure warning as an option.

The 2021 BMW X1 Series has a strong engine under the hood that will get you up to 60 mph in as little as 6.3 seconds, making this car fun to drive. The available all-wheel-drive system has the extra traction and grip you want when the roads get slippery, and the sleek exterior look and upscale cabin features add to the driving experience.
