With all the different engine technologies in existence today, it’s a true honor to secure a spot on the 2016 Wards 10 Best Engines list. BMW’s 3.0L TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder B58 gasoline engine has done just that. Not only does its improved design allow drivers to go 0-60 mph in just 4.6 seconds, but Wards also noted that some of their editors achieved 27 mpg during testing.
BMW is no stranger to claiming Wards Auto 10 Best Engine Awards; since 1995, the German manufacturer has won 32 trophies, with their inline 6-cylinder engine heading that list. BMW models will utilize the B58 engine moving forward into 2020, with the 2016 BMW 740i and the BMW 340i Sedan being the latest.
The BMW B58 engine will provide drivers with increases in several key performance areas over most versions of the previous 6-cylinder engine, the N55: a 20 percent increase in boost pressure as well as substantial increases in both HP and torque.
