Electric vehicles are making waves in the automotive industry as they grow increasingly popular, especially in the luxury segment. After a strategy meeting during the 2016 Paris Auto Show, top executives at BMW have come out with some surprising and exciting news.
The German luxury and performance auto manufacturer has announced that the next generation of the BMW X3 compact SUV will come in an all-electric version. It is scheduled for the 2020 model year. Additionally, an electric version of the Mini was announced for 2019.
These electric models will join the current lineup, which include the BMW i3—a hatchback with a range of 114 miles or 180 miles with the range extender—and the plug-in hybrid i8 sedan—featuring a 330 mile total range and eDrive technology.
The current BMW X3 starts at $39,250 MSRP. A true Sports Activity Vehicle®, this model is capable of 300 horsepower and can hold a total of 63.3 cu. ft. of cargo.
