The varied countryside around Fayetteville, NC means that whether you’re exhilarated by rushing water, or soothed by a peaceful green forest, there are ample opportunities to get away from it all and enjoy the best views that nature can offer. Here are some of our favorite places to take in the sights.

1. Cape Fear Botanical Garden

Just two miles from downtown Fayetteville, Cape Fear Botanical Gardens covers 80 acres of lush greenery that allows you to reconnect with nature. From the scenic river route to the butterfly trail, there are plenty of places where you can rest your eyes and enjoy the sight of the ornamental gardens and beautiful landscaping. Water features and historic buildings add points of interest to scenes that you’ll be dying to photograph.

2. Raven Rock State Park

With mountain laurel thickets, rock formations, and the rushing waters of the Cape Fear River, Raven Rock State Park offers the perfect change of scene. Dramatic overhangs on the Raven Rock loop offer a scenic view of the area, and the Lanier Falls rapids give you the full sense of the power and energy of the river. Visit in the fall for a dazzling display of autumnal color, or enjoy the fresh air and unspoiled surroundings all year round.

3. Mazarick Park

If nothing makes you happier than gazing at the mesmerizing reflection of green trees in serene waters, then you should definitely make time to visit Mazarick Park. With wooded trails along the waterline, you can take in the sights and perhaps catch glimpses of turtles, otters, and bald eagles as you walk.

The park also contains tennis courts, baseball fields, and a children’s play area, so it’s a great excuse to use all that cargo space in your BMW X5 sedan for fishing gear and a picnic, before setting off on a day out with the whole family.

4. Carvers Creek State Park

With cypress swamps and longleaf pine forests, as well as meadowland, Carvers Creek State Park gives you plenty of opportunities to enjoy a beautiful vista. The Rockefeller Trail loop takes you past historic buildings, while the Cypress Point loop trail gives you the chance to view the lake from a 91-foot observation deck. The sandy trails are ideal for walking and biking as you take in the varied landscape.
